Korhan Carpet was founded with the belief that a handwoven silk carpet is not merely a craft, but a work of art. We specialize in the production of boutique, collectible handwoven silk carpets as well as spun carpet manufacturing, distinguished by original designs and high artistic value.
Our Story
The origins of Korhan Carpet trace back to the early years of our founder, Korhan İslamcıoğlu, during his time working as a Japanese-speaking tour guide. While accompanying clients to carpet shops, he quickly noticed that the products on display were chosen according to the shop owners’ preferences rather than the tastes of the customers.
Japanese clients in particular often expressed comments such as, “Is there a smaller size?” or “The design is beautiful, but the color does not appeal to me.” These observations clearly revealed that carpet design should speak a universal language of taste.
Motivated by this realization, Korhan İslamcıoğlu decided to begin his own production. In 1991, he established his first workshop in Hereke, with the aim of creating silk carpets that appealed to the refined aesthetic sensibilities of two cultures he knew well: Japanese and Italian.
Art & Inspiration
Our creative process is deeply inspired by the textile patterns used in Ottoman palaces, the ceremonial and everyday kaftans worn by sultans, and the works of Orientalist painters depicting palace life and daily scenes from the Ottoman Golden Age of the 16th and 17th centuries.
By reinterpreting this rich historical heritage—sometimes in backgrounds, sometimes in borders or compositions—we strive to create unique collections without compromising the essence of the Hereke tradition.
All of our designs are carefully and exclusively created by artists who work independently for our company. We have never embraced the idea of copying best-selling patterns or reproducing popular designs at lower prices.
Our Philosophy
The core philosophy of Korhan Carpet has always been to prove that a carpet is a true work of art. For this reason, we place great importance on close collaboration with painters, artists, and the wider art community.
Creating something truly different is always a risk. Yet, despite all criticism, when a client consciously chooses one of our carpets, it represents the greatest reward an artisan and manufacturer can experience. Ultimately, it is the customer—who pays the price—who makes the most genuine and meaningful decision.

Our founder, Korhan İslamcıoğlu, has been honored multiple times with Certificates of Appreciation by İHİB, Turkey’s sole official association of carpet exporters and manufacturers.
Our designs, distinguished by their high artistic value, have not only inspired other manufacturers but have also contributed to enhancing the international prestige of Turkish carpet artistry.
